The Mehraki Story

I grew up watching my mother build her fashion business from home & successfully set up her own boutique. Even though I did a corporate job for more than 5 years, I constantly came back to the boutique only to realize that nothing gave me more happiness than this business of ours.

Our brilliant team of masters, tailors & embroidery karigars have been an integral part of our lives always. Getting to know them personally made me realise that none of their children wanted to do what their fathers did.
With a lot of western brands coming in, we have somewhere forgotten the beauty of our traditional embroideries, and the talent of these amazing artisans.
Then I came across ‘Ikigai’, a powerful Japanese concept. Anything that you love, you’re good at, can help you earn money, & is something the world needs, is YOUR  ikigai. This pushed to me to think of what I really wanted to do. Then came the concept of having trendy outfits that we love today, along with goodness of embroidery or an artisanal speciality. Each piece wouldn’t just look beautiful, but would also support the artisans who’ve faced a slacked demand due to the pandemic.

The concept of Mehraki was conceived during the 2020 ‘lockdown’ that gave us all good time to connect with our own self & realise our passions. I quit my corporate career of content design & went on to pursue my passion of building a fashion business.

Every design has a story to tell! Multiple artisans work on creating one unique outfit & each one of them puts in something of themselves into their piece of work. Mehraki comes from ‘Meraki’ which means to do something with soul, creativity and love.  Our creations find true meaning in supporting the artisans of the country and celebrating each one’s meraki.

Mehraki is the alter ego for every woman who effortlessly juggles between the many roles she plays in life.  Our collections revolve around the modern Indian woman who easily adapts to the new normal & at the same time always stays truly connected to her roots. A woman whose meraki contributes to her unique identity, true class, & grace that’s difficult to miss!

We aim to handcraft designs that fit like a glove, are super wearable, contemporary yet rooted with our rich cultural heritage.

Love always,
